A huge thanks to our parents & friends support group & everyone who helped out & took part in our table quiz on Friday night where we made €1,054 to go towards our den fund. Thanks also to everyone who took part in the parade on Saturday & were part of the tree planting & to Della for organising all the brilliant costumes. You all looked fab – a memorable day all round. Well done.

Founders Day Sunrise Hike, Totem Pole Unveiling & Guerrilla Neckerchiefing
What a wonderful morning for 5th Meath Kells Scout Group and the wider Kells Community. The day started with a meet up at 06.45 in the Fair Green followed by a wet, windy and dark hike out to the Tower of Lloyd but spirits were high even though there was no obvious sunrise! All sections renewed their Promise and took part in a moments reflection known as a Scouts Own. The wind was at our backs for the return hike back to the Sawmills for a tasty cooked breakfast. 
Some of the Cubs went around the town performing some Guerrilla Neckerchiefing aka putting a necker on landmarks, statues or members of the community!
At 10am we unveiled our work in progress Totem Pole to a large crowd of Scouting families, friends and local dignitaries. Some people got the chance to try their hand at carving and we’re really looking forward to completing the paint work in the next couple of weeks.
Lastly one of our newest Leaders Liam Carey was officially invested into the Group, James Kiernan received his Stage 6 necker and Rufina & Andy were presented with their 5 years of service pin and badge.
A massive thanks again to all who helped in organising today’s event, made our Totem Pole dream a reality and their continued support of 5th Meath Kells Scouts.

Registration & parents meeting for beavers, cubs, scouts, ventures & parents takes place next Tuesday, 8th sept @ 7.30pm in the boys school. The fee for the year is €150 which can be paid in two instalments. The first instalment of€75 can be paid on the night or before October 2015 & €75 by the end of February 2016.

Great news from Athboy earlier today. As Six from Tuesday night Cubs were successful at the Totem Pole Challenge! Weather hindered the day’s activities but one challenge was enough for 5th Meath Kells to be victorious. Huge congratulations to the lads photographed below;

Below is a photo of our very own Rosie who was presented with a Bronze Merit award today at group Leader Training in Dowdstown House by Mandy Brady, County Commissioner.

Massive congratulations to Rosie a hugely deserved award. Below is her nomination.
“I would like to nominate Rosie Kiernan from 5th Meath Kells. Rosie is one of our Beaver Leaders and has been involved since scouts restarted in Kells 7 years ago. She loves working with this younger section and they all love, admire and respect Rosie. She has given so much of her time and support not only to this section but to all sections throughout the Group. She is also Deputy Group Leader and is very hard working on behalf of the group and always goes that extra mile. Despite her vision impairment, Rosie shows great example by her willingness and ability to get stuck into all scouting activities. She never complains and always puts the youth members first. She never gave up on scouting even when her husband James was very sick and had to be hospitalised. She is a great asset to our Group and is very deserving of this award”.

Founders Day 22nd February 2014

Very early this morning 45 very brave and eager souls made their way out to the Tower of Lloyd from Kells. It was a cold but dry and bright morning perfect for watching the sunrise.
We made it to the tower just in time to watch the sun come up behind the town. It was really beautiful, appreciated by all and the complaints at having to get up so early disappeared after witnessing such a special moment.
After a few more photo opportunities around Kells we all met in the Cross Street Bistro for a well deserved cooked breakfast. Thanks so much to all the girls there they really looked after us well and didn’t bat an eyelid at being overrun with hungry Scouts at such an early hour!

Investiture Night will take place in the Boys National School on Wednesday, 11th December from 7 – 8.30pm, when all our new beavers, cubs, scouts, ventures and leaders will be invested in their new sections. This is a great night for all the family members including grandparents. It is a great opportunity for any new potential leaders to see what Scouting is all about and chat to existing members. Perhaps you have some skills you could share with our youth members, why not talk to some of our Leaders on the night. We will be presenting one of our Venture Leaders, Dave Martin with his 5 year Service Badge (yes, even the Leaders get badges) on the night and we also hope to present the local St. Vincent de Paul Society with some Hampers that we are making up at the moment. We would like to thank our Parents and Friends Group who will be supplying the teas and coffees on the night and will finish up with a sing song from all our members. Mark it in your Diary now.

Dear Parents / Guardians,

This year 5th Meath Kells Scout Group would like to put together some hampers for our local Vincent De Paul Society. As we would like to present these on our Investiture Night, on Wednesday 11th December, we would ask if all items could be brought in before Friday, 6th December at the latest. We are asking if each child could bring in one or two of the following suggested items:-

Box of Tea,
Jar of Coffee
Box of biscuits/ sweets
Chocolates
Christmas Crackers
Tinned fruits
Jelly
Luxury non-perishable foods that are in date
Toiletries
Bars of soap, shampoo and shower gel
Colouring pencils
Colouring books & markers
Board Game (small)
Jigsaws

Please make sure that all foods are in date when they are donated for the hampers.

5th Meath Kells Scout Group

And…..

This year for Christmas the Beavers are going to visit santa in larch hill (scouting headquarters), on the 8th of Dec. The bus will leave at 9.45am and returning around 4.30pm. cost will be €20 per beaver to be paid by 26th and 27th of november.
This includes visit to Santa plus lunch in the silver tankard on the way home. The Scout group will cover the cost of the bus.
We need numbers as soon as possible to book our place.

Also…..

Next May we are planning to take part in a provincial three night camp in Cavan the May back Holiday weekend. It is a great opportunity for the group as there will be lots of activities including canoeing etc. the full cost is approx 60e for transport, all activities, accommodation and food. We need to book places by the end of Nov so we are asking you to confirm a place please by sending a 5 e non refundable deposit in a named envelope by next Tuesday 26th. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks

Order of Malta Visit

Massive thanks to the Order of Malta team from Kells who paid us a visit last night.
We got both Tuesday and Wednesday night Cubs and Beavers to attend what was a most informative and fun evening. The children were shown different first-aid techniques and got the chance to practise them finishing up with a tour of the Order of Malta Ambulance.
The evening was organised to help the children achieve their Emergencies Adventure Skills.

Huge thanks to everyone who supported the Venture Table Quiz last Friday night. A great night was had by all with a very close finish by 3 tables all competing for the win! €365 was raised on the night and this will go a long way in helping them with their Four Peaks Challenge.
Well done to all the Ventures and Leaders for their hard work organising the event.

A number of our Cub Section spent a lovely few hours Orienteering in Virgina earlier today. Thankfully it was a nice dry day and the four teams got around the course in good time.     • Hi Sharon, thanks for getting in touch. If you go to the downloads page of our website you can download and print out our application form and post it to the address on it.
